Name: Vinod Patil
How long have you been with Metrics Contract Services?
Three and a half years.
What is your role?
I am a Development Scientist II in the Pharmaceutical Development department at Metrics Contract Services. My role involves developing pre-clinical/clinical formulations, performing scale up and optimization of formulation and processes to meet phase appropriate clinical supply needs of clients. I work on making solid oral dosage forms (tablets, capsules) for drugs used for different indications.
What accomplishment/project/area of work is your specialty or makes you proud?
One of the clients had challenging requirements for their encapsulation product with limited time for any development work. With technical know-how and knowledge of formulation, we were able to optimize the process with limited amount of development work.
Are there any special organizational strategies you use to be efficient at work?
There are multiple projects and clients with tight timelines as it affects their filings with FDA and agencies overseas. I use tracking tools in Excel to ensure that all facets of a project are completed ahead of time.
What are your team’s latest achievements?
We made registration batches for three of my clients in the last year alone. These drugs provide novel treatments for oncology, Angelman’s Syndrome and ADHD. Additionally, this provides new projects which will go to Building 4, our commercial building here at the Greenville, NC site. My team is proud to be part of new treatments and new business opportunities for Mayne Pharma.
How do you think those accomplishments might impact the contract pharmaceutical industry and the industry at large?
Once these drugs receive approval from the FDA, they will provide new treatments which are not available currently.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is having the opportunity to contribute to new drugs/medicines which can make positive impacts on the lives of people.
What is the best piece of advice you ever received from one of your mentors/colleagues?
Help others and they will help you.
